The presence of international schools in Indonesia is now increasingly emerging. International schools offer quality education systems or international standards.
With that international term, some schools add a specific curriculum that is unique outside the national curriculum. These schools apply learning processes with their own characteristics.
The main thing to remember is the way the school provides education according to children’s potential based on the education system it offers. The journey of education is a comprehensive and continuous plan for the stages of education that children will go through, from kindergarten to college.
Therefore, to understand and plan an important educational trip for parents, it must first be understood the uniqueness of the education system in Indonesia today. At present, in general there are two education systems that are recognized and implemented in Indonesia. Both education systems have different teaching characteristics and ways and will produce the next generation with different potentials. There is a UK system and Europe system based curriculum.
The UK System
Cambridge United Kingdom or England is home to some of the oldest universities in the world, including Cambridge (1209) and Oxford (1096). Not surprisingly, the UK has the most rooted education system in the world. Since 1880 the UK has implemented a compulsory education program for children aged 5 to 10 years. In 2013 the education system in this country then increased the age of compulsory education until the age of 18 years. The system is considered to have fulfilled the educational needs of children from 6 to 18 years of age or from elementary level to university. This 16-year education system has an emphasis on mastering subject matter and expertise as the main focus and recognition of renowned qualifications including PSLE certification, O level, and A level. All three are recognized internationally in all schools and related companies.
European System
International Baccalaureate (IB) The International Baccalaureate (IB) is a series of educational systems that can meet the educational needs of children from the age of 3 to 19 years. This education system applies the curriculum extensively and encourages balanced mastery of material, including concentration of learning in students and emphasis on the global context. This system also stimulates students to become lifelong learners by having high enthusiasm for learning and empathy. A global scale study notes that IB schools are considered the most effective way to develop graduates carefully with a combination of outside curriculum resources provided by the IB. Manoharan Karthigasu, one of the education practitioners in Indonesia who has a deep understanding of the International Baccalaureate (IB) education system, said that this education system aims to develop students with a broad level of knowledge. In this case students develop both physically, intellectually, emotionally and ethically. “This program also aims to increase motivation, confidence and educate students to dare to express their opinions. In this system, students are encouraged to be able to apply what they learn to what is happening in the environment. This makes the teaching and learning system more contextual and personal meaning for children, “Manoharan said. Manorahan added, this system of students was also taught to examine the issues that were developing and how the issue had an impact on the world. Not only that. Students also learn to understand how these issues can be related to each other; allows students to develop mindsets and perspectives globally.
